Bio

Mr. Szmidt has a very eclectic background. Beginning in 1969 he taught World History in the Richmond Unified School for 14 years. He then took a leave of absence from teaching and became involved in software development, playing a leadership role in development, project management, training and later customer support. By improving the performance of various divisions, his reputation grew in organizational restructuring.

In 2006, Mr. Szmidt decided to return to teaching and re-started his career in Vallejo at Springstowne Middle School where he taught 7th grade World History. The next year he taught 11th grade English and then in 2008 started teaching 10th grade World History and 11th grade AP US History Jesse Bethel High School. In 2011 he joined the Multi-Media Academy.

With his background in business it is not surprising that Mr. Szmidt uses group and individual projects to help his students excel in their studies. In addition, his strength is in working collaboratively with other departments, so many of his projects span other departments such as English, Media and Science.
